The Royal Palace is the most impressive monument of the city, symbol of the power of the Bourbon dynasty since XVIII century after of a great fire that destroyed in a Christmas Eve the famous royal palace of Habsburg that was in this place before. The palace was built by order of Felipe V, continuing the works his sons Fernando VI and Carlos III, who was the first monarch to inhabit it. Here architects such as Filippo Juvara, Juan Bautista Sachetti, Ventura Rodriguez and Francesco Sabatini worked on its construction. It is considered the largest royal palace in Western Europe and one of the largest in the world, doubling for example the famous Buckingham in London

The tour begins at the main staircase accessing the top of the palace on a circular path. Depending on whether there is a temporary act or exhibition, as well as restoration of any of its rooms, the route may be altered.
